Behind the numbers
Annual cash budget = annual fuel + 12 × (monthly payment + insurance + parking and tolls) + annual maintenance and registration. Monthly average = annual budget ÷ 12. Cash cost per mile = annual budget ÷ annual miles.
At 12,000 miles, 30 MPG and $3.50/gallon, annual fuel is $1,400. Add $350/month payments, $150/month insurance, $40/month parking, $900/year maintenance and $200/year registration: $8,980/year, or $748.33/month.
A little more clarity
This planner focuses on money leaving your budget. Depreciation is an ownership cost but not a monthly bill. Adding it to full vehicle payments could mix different accounting approaches.
