Understand the marking

How to read a tire date code

The last four digits identify the manufacturing week and year. In the example 2422, “24” is the week and “22” means 2022. This tool supports four-digit codes for tires manufactured from 2000 onward.

Why the age is approximate

A DOT date code identifies a week, not a day. We estimate elapsed months from the middle of that week and your device’s current date. Week numbering follows NHTSA’s first-full-week, Sunday-to-Saturday interpretation.

Common questions

A date, not a safety verdict.

What if my date code has only three digits?

Three-digit codes were used before 2000 and do not identify the decade unambiguously. This tool will not guess the year. Ask a tire professional to confirm the marking and advise on the tire.

Does a newer date mean my tire is safe?

No. A tire may have damage or other problems regardless of its age. This calculator only decodes the date and does not inspect the tire.

Why is a code rejected?

Recheck that you have the final four date digits. Invalid weeks, future dates and unsupported formats are rejected. Also check that your device’s date is correct.
