Jeep Grand Cherokee recall: rear coil springs may detach

Jeep is recalling 328,381 potentially affected Grand Cherokee SUVs because incorrectly installed rear coil springs may detach while driving. The campaign covers certain 2021–2023 Grand Cherokee L and 2022–2023 Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee 4xe vehicles. Earlier repairs under recalls 26V051 or 23V413 do not complete this new recall. A detached spring can become a road hazard and increase crash risk. Dealers will replace both rear coil-spring lower isolators at no charge. • Defect: Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2021-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L, 2022-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Jeep Grand Cherokee 4XE vehicles. The rear coil springs may be incorrectly installed and detach from the vehicle while driving.
• Safety consequence: Rear coil springs that detach from the vehicle while driving increase the risk of a crash.

Vehicles already repaired under the previous recalls will need to have the new remedy completed.

What owners should do next

Contact FCA US at 1-800-853-1403 and reference 89D, including if your SUV was repaired under 26V051 or 23V413. NHTSA says those previously repaired vehicles need the new remedy completed; ask the dealer for the current schedule.
