Daimler Truck North America is recalling 2,404 potentially affected 2020–2023 Freightliner Cascadia and 2022 Western Star 49X trucks that received incorrect repairs under recalls 23V073 or 22V817. Corrosion in front-axle brake modulator valves can make the truck pull to one side during electronic or roll stability-control braking. NHTSA identifies the campaign as [26V583000](https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2026/RCLRPT-26V583-2664.pdf).

## What the official recall record says

### Freightliner Cascadia and Western Star 49X: front-axle brake valves

The resulting change in direction can increase crash risk. DTNA’s report explains that the earlier software-only remedy was incompatible with the affected chassis configurations. Dealers will replace the brake modulator valves at no charge, and vehicles previously repaired under the earlier recalls need this new remedy. Owner letters are expected November 8, 2026.

**Official record**

- **NHTSA recall ID:** 26V583000
- **Vehicles listed:** Freightliner Cascadia (2020–2023); Western Star 49X (2022)
- **Potentially affected:** 2,404
- **Components:** ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC); SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:ANTILOCK
- **Report received:** September 9, 2026
- **Owner notification:** Letters are expected to be mailed November 8, 2026.
- **Defect:** Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Freightliner Cascadia and 2022 Western Star 49X vehicles previously repaired incorrectly under recall numbers 23V073 or 22V817. The brake modulator valves on the front axle may corrode and cause the vehicle to pull to one side during braking initiated by Electronic Stability Control (ESC) or Roll Stability Control (RSC).
- **Safety consequence:** Brakes that pull to one side may cause a sudden change in vehicle direction, increasing the risk of a crash.
- **Remedy:** Dealers will replace the brake modulator valves, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 8, 2026. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is F1039. Vehicles repaired under the prior recalls will need the new repair completed.

## What owners should do next

Owners and fleet operators can contact DTNA at 1-800-547-0712 and reference F1039 to confirm whether a previous repair must be corrected. Provide the VIN and earlier recall-service records when arranging the new valve replacement.

Freightliner owners should also review the [separate headlight-software recall](/articles/safety-recall-26v475000/) where applicable.

Use the [official NHTSA recall lookup](https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls) with your VIN to check individual recall status. A model-year listing alone does not confirm that a specific vehicle is affected or still needs repair.
