# FORD MUSTANG MACH E: NHTSA recall 26V582000 explained

## Summary

The official recall record describes a software concern involving the battery energy control module in certain Ford Mustang Mach E vehicles.

## At a glance

- Manufacturer: FORD
- Vehicle: MUSTANG MACH E
- NHTSA campaigns: 26V582000
- Potentially affected: 86

> Official recall facts are attributed to NHTSA. The surrounding summary and owner guidance are RecallWire editorial work. A campaign or model match does not confirm an individual vehicle’s recall or repair status; use the [official NHTSA VIN lookup](https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls).

This edition covers an official Ford recall involving the propulsion battery management system. The record describes a concern that can affect the displayed battery charge level and identifies a potential battery-fire risk under the conditions specified by the manufacturer. Only an official VIN lookup can confirm whether a particular vehicle has an open recall.

## What the official recall record says

### FORD: MUSTANG MACH E

The recall concerns Ford Mustang Mach E vehicles that previously received a replacement battery energy control module. According to the official record, the module’s software may display an incorrect state of charge or may create the stated battery-fire risk after the charging pattern described in the notice. The record says an inaccurate charge display can be associated with an unexpected loss of drive power. Ford’s planned correction is a software update at no charge. The official record does not specify repair timing, parts availability, or whether a particular vehicle is included; an official VIN lookup is needed to confirm recall status.

**Official record**

- **NHTSA recall ID:** 26V582000
- **Vehicles listed:** FORD MUSTANG MACH E (2025, 2024, 2023)
- **Potentially affected:** 86
- **Components:** ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:PROPULSION SYSTEM:TRACTION BATTERY:MANAGEMENT SYSTEM/ENERGY CONTROL MODULE (BMS/BECM):SOFTWARE
- **Report received:** September 9, 2026
- **Owner notification:** Not provided in the source record
- **Defect:** Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Mustang Mache E vehicles that received a new Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) during a prior repair. The battery energy control module software may cause an incorrect state of charge to display in the vehicle, or lead to an increased risk of a high voltage battery fire after repeated DC Fast Charging cycles.
- **Safety consequence:** An inaccurate state-of-charge reading can lead to an unexpected loss of drive power, increasing the risk of crash. Additionally, a high voltage battery fire increases the risk of injury.
- **Remedy:** Dealers will update the BECM software, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, are expected to be mailed October 26, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available, anticipated in December 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S68. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on September 9, 2026.

## What owners should do next

Owners can use an official VIN lookup to check whether their vehicle has an open recall and review the manufacturer’s notice for the latest information. The official record identifies a no-charge software update as the planned remedy.

Mustang Mach-E owners should also review the [separate window-trim recall](/articles/safety-recall-26v487000/) and check each campaign independently by VIN.

A headline cannot confirm whether a particular vehicle is affected. Use the [official NHTSA recall lookup](https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls) with the vehicle identification number and contact the manufacturer or an authorized dealer for vehicle-specific guidance.
