## Summary

Toyota recalls 48,280 Tacoma and Tacoma Hybrid trucks because shock-absorber flanges may corrode and let external oil reservoirs detach.

- Vehicle: TACOMA

- Potentially affected: 48,280

Toyota is recalling 48,280 trucks because corrosion may cause a shock-absorber flange to fail, allowing an external oil reservoir to detach. Campaign 26V514000 covers certain 2024–2025 Tacoma and 2024 Tacoma Hybrid vehicles. A detached reservoir can create a road hazard and increase crash risk.

## What the recall means for owners

### TOYOTA: TACOMA, TACOMA HYBRID

Dealers will inspect the front and rear shock absorber assemblies and replace them as necessary, free of charge. The current NHTSA record gives September 21, 2026 as the expected owner-letter date. The manufacturer report lists a planned mailing window from September 21 through October 5, rather than promising that every owner will receive a letter on the first date.

**Official record — checked September 16, 2026**

- **NHTSA recall ID:** 26V514000
- **Vehicles listed:** TOYOTA TACOMA (2025, 2024); TOYOTA TACOMA HYBRID (2024)
- **Potentially affected:** 48,280
- **Components:** SUSPENSION:FRONT:SHOCK ABSORBER; SUSPENSION:REAR:SHOCK ABSORBER
- **Report received:** August 6, 2026
- **Owner notification:** Expected beginning September 21, 2026; the report lists a planned September 21–October 5 mailing window.
- **Defect:** Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2024 Tacoma Hybrid and 2024-2025 Tacoma vehicles. The metal flange on the front and rear shock absorbers may corrode and fail, resulting in detachment of the external oil reservoir.
- **Safety consequence:** An oil reservoir that detaches can create a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.
- **Remedy:** Dealers will inspect and replace the front and rear shock absorber assemblies, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 21, 2026. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 26TB14 and 26TA14.

## What owners should do next

Contact a Toyota dealer about campaign 26TB14 or 26TA14 and the front and rear shock-absorber inspection. The report limits the recall to vehicles with the specified shock-absorber configuration; confirm coverage by VIN.

Tacoma Hybrid owners should also review the [separate Toyota load-label recall](/articles/safety-recall-26v571000/) and check each campaign independently by VIN.

Our guide to [checking Toyota recalls and arranging the repair](/blog/toyota-issues-how-to-check-recalls-and-handle-safety-problems/) explains how to separate vehicle eligibility, remedy availability and parts availability when speaking with a dealer.

Use the [official NHTSA recall lookup](https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls) or contact the manufacturer or an authorized dealer to confirm recall status for your vehicle’s VIN. A matching model and year alone do not establish that a vehicle is included or that its repair is complete.
