Ford is recalling 47,587 trucks because the infotainment home-screen menu may obstruct the rearview camera image when reverse is selected. Campaign 26V489000 covers certain 2021–2023 F-150 and 2023–2026 F-250 Super Duty trucks equipped with 8-inch SYNC screens. The obstructed view can increase crash risk.

## What the recall means for owners

### FORD: F-150, F-250 SD

The accessory protocol interface module software will be updated by a dealer or over the air, free of charge. NHTSA’s current record says interim safety-risk letters were mailed August 7, 2026. It anticipates remedy availability in September 2026 and says additional letters will follow; this is not confirmation that every affected truck has received the update.

**Official record — checked September 16, 2026**

- **NHTSA recall ID:** 26V489000
- **Vehicles listed:** FORD F-150 (2023, 2022, 2021); FORD F-250 SD (2026, 2025, 2024, 2023)
- **Potentially affected:** 47,587
- **Components:** BACK OVER PREVENTION:DISPLAY FUNCTION; BACK OVER PREVENTION:SOFTWARE
- **Report received:** July 28, 2026
- **Owner notification:** Interim letters mailed August 7, 2026; additional letters when the remedy is available, anticipated in September 2026.
- **Defect:** Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2021-2023 F-150 and 2023-2026 F-250 SD vehicles equipped with 8-inch SYNC infotainment screens. A software error may cause the rearview camera image to be obstructed by the infotainment home screen menu when the vehicle is placed in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."
- **Safety consequence:** An obstructed rearview camera image can reduce the driver's rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
- **Remedy:** The accessory protocol interface module (APIM) software will be updated by a dealer or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed August 7, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available, anticipated in September 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26C37. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on July 31, 2026.

## What owners should do next

Ask Ford or an authorized dealer whether your truck’s VIN is included in campaign 26C37 and whether the required APIM update has been installed. The 8-inch SYNC equipment limitation matters when comparing otherwise similar trucks.

F-150 owners should also review the [separate fuel-tank recall report](/articles/safety-recall-26v578000/) and check each campaign independently by VIN.

If you are comparing this truck with another vehicle, our [Ford, Toyota and Tesla recall comparison](/blog/ford-vs-toyota-and-tesla-comparing-safety-recalls/) uses separate camera campaigns to explain why similar headlines can involve different equipment and repairs.

Use the [official NHTSA recall lookup](https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls) or contact the manufacturer or an authorized dealer to confirm recall status for your vehicle’s VIN. A matching model and year alone do not establish that a vehicle is included or that its repair is complete.
