## Summary

DTNA recalls 23,276 Freightliner and FCCC vehicles from 2026–2027 for improper low-beam illumination. Dealers will update the headlight software.

- Vehicle: S2C

- Potentially affected: 23,276

> Official recall facts are attributed to NHTSA. The surrounding summary and owner guidance are RecallWire editorial work. A campaign or model match does not confirm an individual vehicle’s recall or repair status; use the [official NHTSA VIN lookup](https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls).

Daimler Trucks North America is recalling 23,276 vehicles because a software error may prevent the low-beam headlights from illuminating properly. Campaign 26V475000 covers certain 2026–2027 Freightliner eM2 and Business Class M2 vehicles and Freightliner Custom Chassis S2C and S2RV vehicles. Insufficient illumination can reduce visibility and increase crash risk.

## What the recall means for owners

### FCCC, FREIGHTLINER: S2C, S2RV, BUSINESS CLASS M2 and other models

NHTSA’s current campaign record now specifies a free dealer headlight software update. The July 22 reports described a remedy still under development, so that earlier status is no longer the current repair description. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 20, 2026.

**Official record — checked September 16, 2026**

- **NHTSA recall ID:** 26V475000
- **Vehicles listed:** FCCC S2C (2027, 2026); FCCC S2RV (2027, 2026); FREIGHTLINER BUSINESS CLASS M2 (2027, 2026); FREIGHTLINER EM2 (2027, 2026)
- **Potentially affected:** 23,276
- **Components:** EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS
- **Report received:** July 22, 2026
- **Owner notification:** Owner notification letters expected to be mailed September 20, 2026.
- **Defect:** Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2026-2027 Freightliner EM2, Freightliner Custom Chassis S2RV, Freightliner Custom Chassis S2C, and Freightliner Business Class M2 vehicles. A software error may cause the low beam headlights to illuminate improperly.
- **Safety consequence:** Insufficient low beam headlight illumination can reduce driver visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
- **Remedy:** Dealers will update the headlight software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 20, 2026. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is F1036.

## What owners should do next

Contact an authorized DTNA service facility about the headlight software update under campaign F1036. Fleet operators should check each vehicle’s VIN because the listed model families include vehicles outside the recall population.

Freightliner owners should also review the [separate Cascadia and Western Star brake recall](/articles/safety-recall-26v583000/) where applicable.

Use the [official NHTSA recall lookup](https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls) or contact the manufacturer or an authorized dealer to confirm recall status for your vehicle’s VIN. A matching model and year alone do not establish that a vehicle is included or that its repair is complete.
