Volkswagen is recalling 57,851 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs from model years 2024–2026 because a low-voltage electrical event may prevent the rearview camera image from displaying. Losing the image reduces the driver’s view behind the vehicle and increases crash risk. The NHTSA campaign number is 26V473000.

## What the recall means for owners

### VOLKSWAGEN: ATLAS, ATLAS CROSS SPORT

Dealers will update the rearview camera software free of charge. NHTSA’s current campaign record says owner notification letters were mailed August 4, 2026. The original July 22 filing contains a later planned notification deadline; the current record is the source for the reported mailing date.

**Official record — checked September 16, 2026**

- **NHTSA recall ID:** 26V473000
- **Vehicles listed:** VOLKSWAGEN ATLAS (2026, 2025, 2024); VOLKSWAGEN ATLAS CROSS SPORT (2026, 2025, 2024)
- **Potentially affected:** 57,851
- **Components:** BACK OVER PREVENTION:SOFTWARE
- **Report received:** July 22, 2026
- **Owner notification:** Owner notification letters mailed August 4, 2026, according to the current NHTSA record.
- **Defect:** Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling 2024-2026 Atlas Cross Sport and Atlas vehicles. The vehicles may experience a low-voltage electrical event that affects display screen functions. As a result, the rearview camera image may fail to display as intended.
- **Safety consequence:** A rearview camera that fails to display an image can reduce the driver’s view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
- **Remedy:** Dealers will update the rearview camera software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 4, 2026. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 91TV. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on July 28, 2026.

## What owners should do next

Ask a Volkswagen dealer whether your VIN is included in campaign 91TV and whether the rearview camera software update has been completed. Volkswagen customer service is 1-800-893-5298.

Atlas owners should also review the [separate Atlas and Tiguan steering recall](/articles/safety-recall-26v590000/) and check each campaign independently by VIN.

Use the [official NHTSA recall lookup](https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls) or contact the manufacturer or an authorized dealer to confirm recall status for your vehicle’s VIN. A matching model and year alone do not establish that a vehicle is included or that its repair is complete.
