## Summary

Ford and Lincoln recall 741,195 vehicles for transmission park-system damage that may cause rollaway. See affected models and the planned repair.

## At a glance

- Manufacturer: FORD
- Vehicle: EXPEDITION
- NHTSA campaigns: 26V402000
- Potentially affected: 741,195

> Official recall facts are attributed to NHTSA. The surrounding summary and owner guidance are RecallWire editorial work. A campaign or model match does not confirm an individual vehicle’s recall or repair status; use the [official NHTSA VIN lookup](https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls).

Ford is recalling 741,195 vehicles because the transmission park pawl may engage while the vehicle is moving, damaging the park system and creating a rollaway risk. Campaign 26V402000 covers certain 2018–2021 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles, 2020–2021 Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator vehicles, and 2021 Ford F-150 trucks. Check the VIN to confirm whether a specific vehicle is included.

## Which vehicles are included?

- **Ford Expedition:** 2018–2021
- **Ford Explorer:** 2020–2021
- **Ford F-150:** 2021
- **Lincoln Aviator:** 2020–2021
- **Lincoln Navigator:** 2018–2021

These are the model-year groups listed for the campaign; only certain vehicles within them are affected.

- **NHTSA recall ID:** 26V402000
- **Potentially affected:** 741,195
- **Initial report received:** June 24, 2026.

## Why the recall matters

Park system damage may result in a vehicle rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash.

The [official recall report](https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2026/RCLRPT-26V402-1380.pdf) provides the vehicle and defect details.

## Repair and owner notification

According to NHTSA’s campaign record checked September 16, 2026, dealers will update the powertrain control module software and inspect and replace damaged transmission components as necessary, free of charge. The record says interim letters were mailed July 10, 2026; additional letters will be sent when the remedy is available, anticipated in April 2027. Ford’s campaign number is 26S48.

**Owner notification:** Interim safety-risk letters mailed July 10, 2026. Further letters will follow when the remedy is available, anticipated in April 2027.

## What owners should do

Until the recall repair is completed, Ford recommends always applying the electronic parking brake with the switch on the dashboard or console after shifting into Park. See Ford’s [interim owner letter](https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2026/RIONL-26V402-5319.pdf). Use the [official NHTSA VIN recall lookup](https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls) and contact the manufacturer or an authorized dealer to confirm whether this campaign applies to your vehicle and what service is available. A matching make, model and year alone does not establish that an individual vehicle is affected.

Explorer and Aviator owners should also review the [separate seat-movement recall report](/articles/safety-recall-26v470000/) and check each campaign independently by VIN.

For questions to ask while the remedy is pending, see our guide to [arranging a recall repair and planning for an unavailable remedy](/blog/vehicle-recall-how-to-check-your-car-and-get-it-fixed/).

## September 16, 2026 update

The owner-notification summary now reflects the July 10 interim mailing and distinguishes it from the repair expected in April 2027.

[Current NHTSA campaign data for 26V402000](https://api.nhtsa.gov/recalls/campaignNumber?campaignNumber=26V402000), checked September 16, 2026, supports the current campaign status above. The linked manufacturer report records the filing at its submission date.
